The town of Reading is situated where the Rivers Thames and Kennet meet. Within 30 minutes you can be in London by train or you can drive along the motorway and head for the South West coast. Since 1867 Reading has been the county town of Berkshire and every year it hosts one of the UK’s largest music festivals.
Reading was a very prominent town in the Middle Ages and one of the most important monasteries was located here. Plus it has strong connections to the royal family at that time. However, it was during the seventeenth Century that it saw a down turn in its fortunes and over recent years has seen it become an important commercial centre once more. Many of the major computer and insurance companies are based in and around the town. Reading is also a popular student town with two universities.
Because Reading is quite close London it makes an ideal base for a weekend break. Reading hotels offer a cheaper alternative to the ones in central London. Here we will take a look at a few of the places you can stay in Reading.
Certainly one hotel that has made its mark since being built is the Millennium Madejski Hotel, which is an integral part of the Madejski Stadium Complex. Located on the outskirts of the town only a short drive from the M4 motorway this hotel has 140 deluxe en suite rooms available. It is attached to the stadium itself which is where Reading Football Club play their home games, but has become the permanent home of the Rugby Union Club known as London Irish.
Although it is on the outskirts of the town, there are good transport links to the centre of town and the train station. There is a regular bus service running from the hotel throughout the day. The cost of the fare is around £2 return and will drop and pick you up from outside the train station.
Another hotel to think about staying in is the Wee Waif Hotel. located near the Oracle Shopping Centre which is situated in the centre of Reading. From here you are close to such attractions as Newbury Racecourse and Legoland. All the hotel’s rooms are well appointed as you would expect from a modern hotel. You are also within easy reach of the varied nightlife and great restaurants that Reading has to offer.
As well as the hotels mentioned above there are plenty of others in and around Reading which can accommodate you. You can book your next hotel in Reading here.
